IM: In Music
From the outset, it has been a goal of the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival to provide a means of access into the world of classical music for all ages and throughout the year. To that end OICMF offers:
- Our summer Festival concerts, preceded by authoritative Pre-Concert Lectures
- Music Lovers’ Seminars to attract the curious of mind. Session pairs or single sessions feature speakers presenting on the concert repertoire and all things musical
- Master Classes to inspire and guide community musicians seeking to improve.
- Access to our artists during Festival receptions and events perfect for conversation and post-concert observations.
Of Special Note
Working in cooperation with the local school music programs and the island community, the Chamber Music Festival has accelerated its efforts to reach youth in their school setting. IM: In Music offers hand-on musical experiences for students who have few opportunities to attend classical music performances, learn of the life and times of classical composers, be inspired by artists of national stature or graduate students at the height of their advanced study.
Acting on the potential for integrating the musical experience of the annual Festival with young musical minds and talents, IM: In Music ’s Musicians-in-Residence join the school’s music curriculum each year. The music education program spans the academic year yet has an intentional focus on the rich repertoire of the two-week summer Festival event, its composers, compositions, and musicians. Very exciting for all concerned!
IM: In Music was created with initial funding from the Orcas Island Community Foundation, the Gould Family Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival. Vinton and Mimi Sommerville are continuing sponsors of the Musicians-in-Residence and Children’s Festival Event.
We believe that the success of IM: In Music will inspire on-going support from our Festival community of donors.
A hearty THANK YOU! to all who have invested in this innovative arts education offering for young people, community members, and Festival visitors.
Ask about IM: In Music and become a sponsor of classical music in our lives and those of our young people.
