What is OICMF’s mission?
OICMF’s continued mission is to share the joy of chamber music in an annual festival, featuring creative and inspiring programs in a genial setting. Each year we invite internationally renowned classical musicians who are committed to communicating their love of great music through concerts, educational talks, and performances for children. By making the Festival an annual event, OICMF is able to present an extraordinary range of classical music for islanders and visitors alike.

Does OICMF have an office?
Yes. It is located on Orcas Island in Eastsound, WA at the Orcas Center. For more detailed questions that cannot be answered through the website, please call the Festival Office at 360.376-6636 or toll free 866-492-0003. Click here for more Festival contact information.
Who is on OICMF’s Board of Directors?
OICMF has been blessed with wonderfully insightful, experienced Board members, most of whom are founding members. The Board is led by President Valerie Anders, Vice President Marsha Waunch, Treasurer Jerry Smith and Secretary Catherine Pederson. Other Board members include: Marilyn Anderson, Phyllis Henigson, Ann Shilling, Hiram Stickney, Jonathon White and Laila Storch.
Does OICMF have ticketing capabilities? Can I purchase tickets directly from OICMF?
No, OICMF does not have ticketing capabilities, so it contracts the Orcas Center Box Office (which has the computer software and personnel to handle ticketing activities) to sell tickets for them. Ticket seekers cannot purchase tickets directly from OICMF for this reason. However, OICMF does conduct its own select donor pre-sale before the general public ticket sale as a benefit for OICMF donors who gift $500 or more during OICMF’s current fiscal year.

Is OICMF affiliated with Orcas Center? Does Orcas Center co-sponsor the Festival?
No, OICMF has operated as a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization since December 1997, with its own Board of Directors, management and artistic directors. For OICMF’s first four seasons Orcas Center served as a co-sponsor of the Festival, primarily due to the two organizations’ acting financial agreement during that time frame. This has caused the public to incorrectly perceive that the Festival is produced by Orcas Center. OICMF and Orcas Center entered into a new financial facility-rental arrangement in 2002, in which Orcas Center no longer is signing on as an event co-sponsor. OICMF thanks Orcas Center for its early support and looks forward to the two organizations’ continued growth and evolving partnership.
I am an Orcas Center member. Does that make me eligible to receive Festival information before the rest of the general public and/or purchase tickets in advance?
Unfortunately, no. The two organizations are not affiliated in any way and are completely separate. Each summer, OICMF mails its season brochure to all Orcas Island residents and its own database. OICMF does not mail brochures to Orcas Center’s members because it does not have access to Orcas Center’s member database. However, because the Festival takes place at Orcas Center, the Center announces the Festival dates and information in its early summer edition of its newsletter, “Centerline,” which is how most off-island Orcas Center members learn in advance of the Festival dates and programming (on-island Orcas Center members would receive OICMF’s island-wide mailing of its season brochure).
Can I join (or become a member of) OICMF in order to be eligible to advance information and tickets?
Unlike Orcas Center, OICMF is not a member-based organization and does not operate on the membership dues system. OICMF is a non-profit organization that is supported through individual donations, corporate sponsorships and government and private foundation grants. Like most non-profit arts organizations, OICMF offers a full list of benefits according to a donor’s giving level. One of the most popular donor benefits is OICMF’s select donor ticket pre-sale for those donors gifting $500 or more during OICMF’s current fiscal year. This is the only way to be eligible to receive advance tickets through OICMF. Those interested in the Festival can ask to be added to OICMF’s database, which will ensure that the interested party will receive a season brochure in June and an annual campaign mailing in December of each year.

What should I wear?
The Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival is located on Orcas Island, in Washington State’s Puget Sound, which attracts a large tourist population in the summer. A percentage of our patrons are on vacation and may have spent the day at the beach, hiking or on a boat. Concertgoers attend in everything from jeans to dresses, shorts to suits. Feel free to wear comfortable clothes from casual to dressy. The music sounds as great no matter what you wear!
Where do the musicians come from?
If you’re a seasoned Festival-goer, you’ll recognize many familiar faces returning along with a few new faces each year. The artists who participate in the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival are concertmasters, conductors, and other immensely talented professional musicians specifically selected by Artistic Director Aloysia Friedmann and Artistic Advisor Jon Kimura Parker and come from some of the top orchestras in America.
When do I clap?
When you arrive at the concert, look at the program page for the evening. All of the pieces are listed in the order they will be performed. Chamber music is usually comprised of movements within the piece. After each movement the musicians will take a brief pause. You do not need to clap during the pause. Still not sure when to clap? Just wait until everyone else claps!
Where do I park?
You can park in the Orcas Center's parking lot. Please do not park at the Catholic church parking lot next door, but you may park in the Medical Center's parking lot (there is a lit walkway between their parking lot and Orcas Center). Since our concerts are sell-outs, you may consider carpooling with friends!
When will the doors be opened for seating?
The doors to Orcas Center will open one hour before scheduled pre-concert talks.
Is Orcas Center handicapped-accessible?
Yes. Orcas Center can accommodate wheelchair seating in the auditorium’s side left and right wings and also offers a limited supply of wireless headset assisted listening devices. If you or someone in your party needs special assistance, please call the Orcas Center Box Office at 360.376.2281 for details.
